Kemal Gekić - In Recital

Sunday, April 14, 2024

Christ Our Shepherd Lutheran Church
101 N Peachtree Pkwy, Peachtree City, GA 30269

2:30pm
Doors Open at 2:15pm

Flamboyant, daring, provocative, exciting, seductive and sensitive are some of the words used to describe one of today's most formidable pianists, Kemal Gekic, whose playing has been acclaimed worldwide by public and critics alike. Born in Split, Croatia, Gekic entered the Art Academy of Novi Sad, Yugoslavia, graduating in 1982 with the highest mark ever granted on a diploma exam recital. He was immediately given a faculty appointment as assistant professor and eventually headed the piano department until 1999. He has won prizes at the Franz Liszt Competition in Parma (1981), the Viana da Motta in Lisbon (1983) and the Yugoslav Artists' Competition in Zagreb (1984). Since then, Gekic has been artist-in-residence at the Florida International University in Miami.

His venturesome manner of approaching sound and form prove him to be a maverick in the music world: "Gekic moves on the charismatic threshold to genius," pronounced Richard Dyer in the Boston Globe. His oustanding recording of the Rossini-Liszt transcriptions (Naxos) won "The Rosette" of the Penguin Guide for Music, the recording of the 12 Transcendental Etudes by Franz Liszt is considered one of the best cycles overall.

Pam Asberry presents Teaching the Transfer Student

Tuesday, October 17, 2023

The Music Garden
2860 GA-54
Peachtree City, GA 30269

10:00am

Transfer students come with a unique set of challenges and opportunities. In this workshop, we will explore ways to assess skill level, choose teaching materials, break bad habits, and keep motivation high.

Described as “a new age solo pianist of uncommon melodic grace, insight and heartfelt intuitiveness,” Pam Asberry is an award-winning performing artist and composer who combines contemporary, new age and classical sounds to create music that is alternately melodic and graceful, dramatic and powerful, peaceful and hypnotic. Classically trained from the age of seven, she completed a master’s degree in piano performance and piano pedagogy and maintains a private teaching studio in Lawrenceville, Georgia, offering lessons in piano, clarinet, music theory, and composition. She has played concerts across the United States and abroad and her twin passions are sharing her music and the stories behind them with listeners around the world and inspiring others, especially young people, to find their own joy in music making.

Roundtable Discussions and Social Luncheons

Our roundtable discussions are simply that. It's a great networking opportunity as fellow members sit with coffee and finger foods discussing a pre-selected topic. Our last discussion covered Contemporary Repertoire along with a Book Swap.
Twice a year in May and December, members gather at a favorite local restaurant to chat, mingle, and enjoy lunch together. These are a lot of fun with a nice mixture of business talk and storytelling. Join us at the next one!
