Solo Recitalist Series

In 2022, CFMTA embarked on a project to share the countless possibilities of piano performance with our community and our students. The Solo Recitalist Series is a wonderful opportunity for students to have an immersive experience, hearing full recitals by accomplished musicians, free of charge and right here in our local area without the need to drive to the big city.

We are proud to be hosting and funding these incredible annual events. If you would like to see more live piano performances in your local community, please consider supporting us. CFMTA is a non-profit organization with a current 501(c)(3) status. You can make a contribution to CFMTA by clicking here. All funds collected will be used for the sole purpose of providing musical education opportunities to hundreds of local students, including live performances such as the ones presented here.

Kemal Gekić - In Recital
Sunday, April 14, 2024, 2:30pm - Christ Our Shepherd Lutheran Church, Peachtree City

~

Flamboyant, daring, provocative, exciting, seductive and sensitive are some of the words used to describe one of today's most formidable pianists, Kemal Gekić, whose playing has been acclaimed worldwide by public and critics alike. Born in Split, Croatia, Gekić entered the Art Academy of Novi Sad, Yugoslavia, graduating in 1982 with the highest mark ever granted on a diploma exam recital. He was immediately given a faculty appointment as assistant professor and eventually headed the piano department until 1999. He has won prizes at the Franz Liszt Competition in Parma (1981), the Viana da Motta in Lisbon (1983) and the Yugoslav Artists' Competition in Zagreb (1984). Since then, Gekić has been artist-in-residence at the Florida International University in Miami.

His venturesome manner of approaching sound and form prove him to be a maverick in the music world: "Gekić moves on the charismatic threshold to genius," pronounced Richard Dyer in the Boston Globe. His oustanding recording of the Rossini-Liszt transcriptions (Naxos) won "The Rosette" of the Penguin Guide for Music, the recording of the 12 Transcendental Etudes by Franz Liszt is considered one of the best cycles overall.
